Well, here it is folks- copies of our brand new album ‘Play Something Irish’ have just arrived!
Jam packed with seventeen of the songs we get asked to sing over and over again at gigs, this album gives you a whopping 75 minutes of musical memories.
We’ve had great fun recording this album and having some good friends of ours come along and join us for the craic has made it a very special experience. Many thanks to our friends Bob Ballard, Emmett Leneghan, John Leonard, Caitlin O’Connell, Kate Perry, Scuppered (Pete Gray, John Hodge, Andy Parker) and featuring Riley dog on specialist backing vocals on Irish Rover!
So, what’s the story behind the name of the album you might ask?
Well, it’s said that eons ago a weary traveller lost his way along the path as mists descended and he wandered into and became trapped inside a Faery Ring. He fell into a deep and dream-filled sleep where songs came to him with their timeless stories and …
Only Joking!!!
Many years ago we were playing an open air festival against the backdrop of Newark Castle and after a blistering opening few numbers of a set packed with traditional Irish songs, Jigs and Reels, a lone voice rang out from the audience in the dark, shouting ‘Play something Irish- play Danny Boy!’ much to our amusement and that of our friend, Neil Kelso, who was in the audience that night. Periodically at gigs over the next quarter of a century Neil would shout up those words again making everyone laugh and so when we were putting together the list of material for this album, including Danny Boy, Tony suggested that it would be a very fitting name. It’s only taken us 25 years to record an album to fit the title!
